Particle size reduction is an essential part of the porcelain enameling process. This is accomplished by ball mill grinding.
The ball mill grinding of porcelain enamel frits should result in a material of specified fineness and particle size distribution, and be free of harmful contamination.
The efficiency of the operation is also of primary importance. Equipment should be of reasonable capacity and should be maintained in a way to produce maximum grinding, minimum heating, and minimum wear on lining and grinding media.
In order to obtain the desired material condition and milling efficiency, it is essential that good routine practices be followed.
Equipment requirements and maintenance, as well as general millroom practices, will be discussed in this manual.
